Welcome to the website of the 1st edition of Santander Orchestra, a unique cultural project.

The orchestra, composed of young musicians, students and graduates of Polish music academies from all over Poland, appeared under the baton of Maestro Krzysztof Penderecki and John Axelrod, both world-class conductors, in the most prestigious concert halls in Poland in late 2015.

His characteristic feature is versatility. His performances are ravishing and his energy is shared by both the orchestra and the audience. Thanks to his enthusiasm combined with great musicality, he creates perfect atmosphere of work for juvenile orchestras, such as Accademia della Scala or Wiener Jeunesse Orchester and currently - Santander Orchestra. At the moment, John Axelrod performs the role of Music Director at the Real Orquesta Sinfonica De Sevilla and Chief Conductor of the Milan Symphonic Orchestra "La Verdi".

The Hungarian trumpeter who conquers stages all over the world is one of the most talented musicians of the young generation.

The winner of a prestigious competition ARD in Munich and the Grand Prix laureate in the Paris Maurice André Competition, which is the most important competition for trumpeters. International press emphasizes his musicality, perfect technique and a combination of the clearest-sounding belcanto with impeccable articulation. His talent has brought him popularity and has led him to cooperation with the largest orchestras in the world. Acknowledged as the leading performer of contemporary music, he has delivered premiere performances of numerous works, including Concertino na Trąbkę (Trumper Concertino) by Krzysztof Penderecki.

Outstanding person in the world of music, professor, composer and conductor cooperating with soloists and orchestras of the world format.

He is one of the most renowned Polish composers of the contemporary music, author of operas, symphonies, choirs, chamber and solo works. The professor enjoys recognition of the classical music elite and cooperates with the most renowned artists, while also being a great promoter of young talents. It was his initiative to create the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music, where the masters of music teach the most talented representatives of young generation.

Szymon Nehring was born in Kraków. He began to take piano lessons at the age of five.

Currently he studies at the Academy of Music in Bydgoszcz in the class of professor Stefan Wojtas. Winner of numerous prizes in the Polish and international pianist competitions, including Budapest (2010), Saint Petersburg (2011), Narva (2012), Rome (2014) and Bydgoszcz (2014). As a soloist, he performed with numerous symphony orchestras in Poland and abroad. He has received scholarships of the Sapere Auso Małopolska Scholarship Foundation (since 2008), the Pro Musica Bona Foundation (since 2010) and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2010). In 2015, he received the Krystian Zimerman scholarship.

Since 2002 in the United States, where in 2006 he finished Ph.D.studies at the Roosevelt University of Chicago with professor Jay Friedman. Between 2002 and 2005 he was the first trombonist at The CIVIC Orchestra of Chicago. Orchestras he cooperates with include the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia da Camera, Glenview Symphony Orchestra and Lincolnwood Chamber Orchestra. The winner of prestigious international clarinet competitions, such as "Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competition" in Denmark, International Clarinet Competition "Animato Foundation" in Zurich or the Encouragement Prize Competition Concert Society in Munich. Since 2009, he has been the first clarinettist in the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as in the Orchestra Vienna State Opera. He regularly performs as a soloist together with renowned orchestras. He also performed under internationally renowned conductors, such as Lorin Maazel or Gustavo Dudamel.

The viola player at the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, soloist and chamber musician, a student of Nobuko Imai and Michael Tree.

She started to develop her skills and to win violin competitions, but since 1990, when she took up the viola for the first time, she has never said goodbye to it. She received her education from the renowned viola players (among them Kim Kashkashian) in Germany and the United States. Having graduated from the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Orchestra Academy where she was trained by Wilfired Stehle, in 2000 she became a member of the Berliners’ first representation. In music, versatility is very important to her, which is why she combines the work at the orchestra with playing chamber music and teaching.

Soloist of numerous symphonic orchestras, professor at the Hochschule Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover.

Born in Finland, he studied with Timo Ronkainen at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and with Radovan Vlatkovic in Berlin, where in 1944 he became the first French horn player in Deutsches Symphonie Orchester Berlin. He also performed this role at the Berliner Philharmoniker between 1997 and 1999. Winner of international solo competitions, including Brass player of the year in Finland, the International Horn Competition in Markneukirchen and ARD-Wettbewerb in Munich.

First cellist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

He began to play cello at the age of 7. He owes his popularity and a range of important prizes in the international competitions to his unusual talent. Apart from the studies in Budapest and Vienna, a cooperation with Claudio Abbado during the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra project was also an important step in his career. Since 2005, he has been leading the cello section at the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. A chamber musician and a teacher, renowned for his search for tailor-made solutions when working with students.

Outstanding violinist and appreciated teacher, guest concertmaster of the leading orchestras and an habitué of the greatest festivals.

The graduate of Mozarteum in Salzburg and Juilliard School in New York. He performs at prestigious festivals, such as Schleswig Holstein Music Festival, China Shanghai International Arts Festival or Marlboro Music Festival. However, his role is not limited to the one of the soloist - at the moment, he leads the NDR Orchestra in Hamburg. He is also a guest concertmaster of numerous renowned orchestras with which he performed under, among others, Herbert Blomstedt, Myung-Whun Chung, Christof Eschenbach and Krzysztof Penderecki.

MyWay Foundation

The MyWay Foundation established in 2013 focuses on supporting young talented classical musicians in their professional career. In the first year of the activity, the Foundation took care of four outstanding musicians, the students at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. For several months, a flutist Jennyfer Fouani, violinists Agata Nowak and Magdalena Langman and a saxophonist Szymon Zawodny have been professionally supported by the Foundation thereby receiving training and workshops on,

amongst others, copyrights management, finance, motivation and stress management. Apart from such support, they also received individual, multimedia portfolios with professional recordings, biography, videos, professional photo shoots and an internet website. Today this is a basic set of marketing tools that facilitates the start of career at the music market.

Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music

A unique project at an international scale - the first of this kind centre for the development of young music talents in Poland and in Europe. The centre is a meeting place for talented artists, young musicians and renowned teachers, as well as a place to share experience, study in group and develop. The idea behind this unique centre was to create conditions that would allow for comparison with peers and contact with unquestionable authorities of the Polish and the European music world.

The centre beats with music all year round by inviting artists and audiences to concerts, festivals, trainings, seminars, meetings and music workshops. The Lusławice facilities include, among others, a concert hall for 650 people, education part which comprises individual and team training rooms, a library and a guest part with a living section for the participants of the programme - teachers and young artists. The architecture of the modern Centre is an integral part of the environment and an ideal place for creative activity.

Programme 2 of the Polish Radio

Programme 2 of the Polish Radio is a public institution of culture with the largest audience, covering the widest broadcasting range in Poland. It is distinctive among the Polish media: classical music, culture news, folk, jazz, literature, radio theatre and talks about culture are broadcast running 24/7. The radio broadcasts concerts from the most interesting music festivals: "Sacrum Profanum," "Misteria Paschalia", "Warszawska Jesień"

„Actus Humanus” or „Chopin i jego Europa.” There are also live opera and concert transmissions from the most important concert halls in the world, as well as reviews of the music live. Thanks to an exchange within an European Broadcasting Union (EBU), it promotes Polish performers and Polish music in the public radio stations in Europe, the United States, Canada, Israel, Australia and Japan.

TVP Kultura

TVP Kultura (TVP Culture) is the only Polish TV broadcaster entirely devoted to culture. It has received numerous renowned prizes, including Hot Bird TV Award in Culture/ Education, EBUconnect in Best Comedy, Reality or Entertainment Promo, SAT Kurier Award and the Muzeum Sztuki i Łódź prize for the educational cycles on art. Since July 2011, Katarzyna Janowska has been the CEO at TVP Kultura. The channel broadcasts programmes about theatre, film, music, literature and the so-called off culture.

Apart from acting within its programme strategy, since 2012 TVP Kultura has been the executive producer of live cultural event, festival or concerts, including the Gala of the 30th anniversary of Zeszyty Literackie or the Zbigniew Herbert Award Gala. TVP Kultura not only strives at drawing its audience to the programmes, but also pays a lot of attention to everything related to the image.
