Welcome to the website of the 1st edition of Santander Orchestra, a unique cultural project.

The orchestra, composed of young musicians, students and graduates of Polish music academies from all over Poland, appeared under the baton of Maestro Krzysztof Penderecki and John Axelrod, both world-class conductors, in the most prestigious concert halls in Poland in late 2015.

maestro José Maria Florêncio

Brazilian conductor and graduate of the Minas Gerais University in Belo Horizonte. He studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York and Musikhochschule in Vienna. He also completed Henryk Czyż’s composition classes. He was either the director or the 1st conductor in such ensembles as: the Grand Theatre in Poznań, the Baltic Opera and the Poznań Philharmonic. He performs on the top stages in Europe, both Americas and Asia. He is the Honorary Consul of Brasil in Poland.

A semi-finalist of the 2015 Chopin Competition and a distinguished and awarded soloist.

soloist Krzysztof Książek

Born in 1992 in Kraków, this pianist is a Grand Prix laureate of numerous competitions. He is particularly renowned for his performance of the works of Polish composers: Chopin and Paderewski. In 2015, he advanced to the semi-finals of the 17th International Chopin Piano Competition, where he was awarded two off-the-regulations prizes. He has been granted the Krystian Zimerman scholarship. He is giving solo performances all over Europe and on other continents. He is represented by the Ludwig van Beethoven Association.

The 1st oboist of Sinfonia Varsovia, holder of PhD earned at the University of Music in Warsaw and a renowned soloist and chamber musician.

A graduate of the Academy of Music in Kraków, where he taught before he assumed the role of the class supervisor at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. In 1997–2012, he was the 1st oboist of the National Polish Radio Symphonic Orchestra. He then became the 1st oboist of Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra and a teacher in the orchestra academy. He recorded multiple albums and gave many concerts, also as a soloist.

Katarzyna Budnik-Gałązka is the winner of multiple awards at top national and international competitions, including the 3rd place in the ARD competition in Munich. Guest artist at a number of festivals. She has performed all over Europe as a soloist and chamber musician with such aritsts as Gidon Kremer, Tatiana Grindenko and Yuri Bashmet. She was nominated to ”Paszporty Polityki” and received the Fryderyk 2014 Music Award for her solo album “Viola Recital”. She was recognised with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage scholarship for outstanding achievements and “Young Poland” scholarship.

After she graduated from the Academy of Music in Kraków, she has won multiple prizes, including the first prize and Grand Prix at the 7th International Music Competition in Brno in 2009. She studied in the class of Radovan Vlatkovic and Rodolofo Epelde at Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, where she was granted a scholarship by the Queen of Spain. She has performed as a soloist and the first voice of orchestras in Madrid, Kraków and Bilbao. Currently, she is cooperating with top Polish orchestras.

A graduate of the violin class led by Professor Jadwiga Kaliszewska and winner of awards at many numerous competitions in Poland and abroad, including a honourable mention in the final of the 12th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poznań. Since 2003, he has been the 1st concertmaster of Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra, with which he also gave multiple performances as a soloist, cooperating with Krzysztof Penderecki, Jacek Kaspszyk, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Marc Minkowski, Nigel Kennedy, Stefan Dohr, Albrecht Mayer and Jarosław Śmietana. He also recorded solo performances for such companies as Deutsche Grammophon and EMI.

Leader of the cello section of Sinfonia Varsovia. Since 1997, he has been regularly awarded in solo and chamber competitions.

He graduated from Stanisław Firlej’s class of the Academy of Music in Łódź. Then, he mastered his skills under the supervision of Ivan Monighetti, Michael Flaksman and Tomasz Strahl. Winner of prizes at more than 20 domestic and international competitions, including 1st prizes at international cello competitions in Warsaw, Poznań and Wrocław, and a participant of the International Mścisław Rostropowicz Competition in Paris in 2005. Since 2012, he has been in charge of the cello section in Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra.

Top Polish trombonist, highly experienced pedagogue and unquestionable authority in the field of musical education.

Since 1979, he has been combining his career as a bass trombonist in the National Polish Radio Symphonic Orchestra in Katowice with his work as a concert performer and teacher. He is a Professor of the Academy of Music in Kraków. His former students have won many top awards in Poland and abroad. He cooperated with such distinguished artists as: Claudio Abbado, Leonard Bernstein, Lorin Mazeel, Kurt Mazur, Placido Domingo, Krzysztof Penderecki, Mścisław Roztropowicz and Yehudi Menuhin.

THE MYWAY FOUNDATION

The MyWay Foundation, founded in 2013, concentrates on supporting young classical music talents in their professional career. In the first year of operation, the Foundation took four exceptionally gifted musicians, students of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, under its wings. For several months, Jennyfer Fouani (a flautist), Agata Nowak and Magdalena Langman (violinists) and Szymon Zawodny (a saxophonist) benefited from the professional support of the Foundation in the form of training courses and workshops in such areas as copyright management, finance, motivation and stress management.

Apart from workshops, they were provided with individual multimedia portfolios including professional recordings of musical pieces, their biographies, videos, professional photo shoots and websites: a basic set of marketing tools facilitating the start of career on the music market in today’s age.

THE KRZYSZTOF PENDERECKI EUROPEAN CENTRE FOR MUSIC

A unique project on a global scale: the first such centre for young music talents in Poland and Europe. The centre is a meeting point for talented artists, young musicians and excellent pedagogues and the area for experience sharing and group education and development. The idea behind the foundation of this outstanding place was to create the conditions enabling young music talents to compare their skills with each other and learn from unquestioned authorities of the Polish and European musical world. The centre operates in the rhythm of music all over the year, inviting both artists and audience to concerts, festivals, courses, seminars, meetings and music workshops.

The facilities of the centre in Lusławice include a concert hall for 650 spectators, a didactic area including rooms for individual and team rehearsals, a library and the living area with bedrooms for programme participants: tutors and young artists. The modern architecture of the Centre is harmoniously integrated with the surroundings, which makes it a perfect place for creative activity.

TVP Kultura

TVP Kultura (TVP Culture) is the only Polish TV broadcaster entirely devoted to culture. It has received numerous renowned prizes, including Hot Bird TV Award in Culture/ Education, EBUconnect in Best Comedy, Reality or Entertainment Promo, SAT Kurier Award and the Muzeum Sztuki i Łódź prize for the educational cycles on art. Since July 2011, Katarzyna Janowska has been the CEO at TVP Kultura. The channel broadcasts programmes about theatre, film, music, literature and the so-called off culture.

Apart from acting within its programme strategy, since 2012 TVP Kultura has been the executive producer of live cultural event, festival or concerts, including the Gala of the 30th anniversary of Zeszyty Literackie or the Zbigniew Herbert Award Gala. TVP Kultura not only strives at drawing its audience to the programmes, but also pays a lot of attention to everything related to the image.

Program 2 Polskiego Radia

Dwojka is a public cultural institution with the broadest coverage. Various music genres can be found on the air here: jazz, folk, classical, avant-garde. Dwojka broadcasts live concerts from the most interesting Polish music festivals: „Sacrum Profanum”, „Warsaw Autumn”, „Chopin and his Europe”. Opera performances and concerts are presented live from London, Vienna, Berlin, St. Petersburg, Salzburg, Bayreuth. Dwojka promotes Polish music throughout all the continents.

It acts as a patron for young artists representing Poland in international competitions. Radio orchestras perform in its concert studio. Dwojka finances their recording sessions and concert activities. Debut novels and new releases are presented on the air, but classic literature and classic drama also have their place here. The radio theatre hosts performances by Polish stars of stage.

Polska Press Grupa
